The boys of Belfast had a tremendous 2017 from releasing their self-titled debut album on Ninja Tune with acclaim, preforming a successful live tour, and releasing solid EP’s on their ‘Feel My Bicep’ imprint. Acclimating to the upper echelons of dance music, BICEP teams with electronic heavyweight – Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet to present their collaboration on the mystically melancholic, yearning track, ‘Opal’.
Keeping BICEP’s piercing synths as the driver of the track as well as the original groundwork intact, Four Tet continues to texturize by underlying vocal snippets, heavenly harmonics, angelic acapella and delicately evolving the beat from the beginning to the end by weaving in and out of the track like fragments in time. Four Tet’s arranges ‘Opal’ with deepening crescendos akin to candle lights burning into the morning light and leaves the listener in an inner sanctum of transcendence and self-reflection.
The mineral opal has the ability to diffract light and depending on the conditions of which it was formed, it can take on millions of colors. And throughout the track, Four Tet successfully replicates the visual beauty of an opal into sound. He reminds us listeners that we are all intrinsically beautiful and we all shine diversely in million combinations of rays of light… like an opal.
Pre-order the white label 12” and MP3 on any major music retailer slated for April 27th, 2018 release. The double-sided ‘Opal EP’ will feature new track from BICEP titled ‘Helix’ as B-side.
