‘Marilyn’ from English duo Mount Kimbie’s junior album ‘Love What Survives’ is a carefree melting track with elementary vibe of youthful innocence, parental respect and unconditional love. Yet, Berliner Jay Donaldson aka Palms Trax, reconstructs Mount Kimbie’s track by diving deeper into complexity of emotion by playing true to depths of a child. Palms Trax masterfully paints the peaks and valleys of the track parallel to the ups and downs of life. The churning melancholic synths, and harmonic loops continue to play the innocence while he sways in and out many elements of from instruments, crescendos, reverberations equivalent to the feelings and moods of an adolescent. Mount Kimbie’s intentionality mayhap been purity of childhood love but Palms Trax delivers a track weighs in the realities of it.
